The Jabra Evolve3 85 is not simply another enterprise headset upgrade, but rather a complete revision on what a professional headset should look like in 2025. After weeks of testing on video calls, during commutes, at coffee shops, and in marathon back-to-back meetings, we are now more certain than ever that this is one of the most important business headset launches in several years.

But is it worth the $487 asking price? Let’s break it down.

What’s New: Evolve3 85 vs. Evolve2 85 — Is It a True Upgrade?

For customers who previously owned headphones from the Evolve2 Series, Evolve 3 85 will bring in new innovations that are truly impressive.

The most significant innovation is the fully wireless microphone.

In our mic reviews, this microphone is the first competing product that is true arm mic quality.

The new version of the Evolve3 85 is 35% thinner and 23% lighter than the Evolve2. The total thickness is approximately 22mm, and the case can slide comfortably in laptop side pockets.

Evolve2 headphones destroys the case mic and head phone combo for an already fully loaded bag.

The new mic headset has been updated in fabric (and an unsurprisingly smart decision for an enterprise device). The Evolve2 headphones (and the case mic / combo, for an already fully loaded bag) literally ‘heads’ up the esp. who has had the previously sweaty ears!).

The mic and headphones are also user-replaceable, which doubles the our promises.

Design & Comfort: Built for All-Day Wear

The folding headsets become unproductive because of comfort. It’s easy to want to take them off. Before you know it, they’re collecting dust on your desk.

The Evolve3 85 is not like this. It is actually 220 grams, which is super light. The padding on the headband is made of breathable cushion material which distributes the weight evenly, and the angled ear cup pillow cavities \ and the cavities sit on your ears not press them. I wore them for an 8 hour workday without discomfort which is a luxury I can’t get with any other headsets I’ve used.

The aesthetics is not, in a good way, sweat. The boom is all gone. The unflattering microphone light is removed. This is an over ear headset which is as good for the office as for the coffee shop. The touch, Vuzix has red call light and jettison busylight on the ear cup, which show your call to your close work. It’s quite and functional.

Also very good, little detail is the music pause function. I find it about as little as the over the ear sets, which I find it as a little is the function pause as the over the sets, it is good to as little as the function. This is good in over as the function. This little over the ear function is good and a headset.

Jabra ClearVoice: The Boomless Mic That Actually Works

Most people seem mildly doubtful. Can a boomless microphone really provide calling audio quality at a professional level?

After some evaluation, we believe they are correct, but the proof is very much there.

Jabra’s ClearVoice technology incorporates a combination of a deep neural network model (DNN) and a beamforming array consisting of six microphones. The DNN model has been trained on a variety of speech and separates voices in real-time and keeps the mic arm away from your mouth.

Based on my experience and seemingly others, I have taken numerous calls and the level of competing noise has never been equal to my voice, meaning that, in all of my calls, my voice has always been heard and at the equal level of clarity to the voice of my customer regardless of the amount of background noise. I have called from a street with competing wind noise, a washing machine (heated on), and an espresso. I have called from a cafe packed with background chatter. The boomless design is what we have to have.

Something to also consider is the uniqueness of this product. One of my colleagues has been testing this product in the seemingly chaotic context of an audible, within the family, toddler. The other participants in the call, besides the recipient, noted the absence of all background and other noise, and whether or not they were at all disturbed, were clear from noise.

Key mic specs:

  • 6 digital MEMS microphones
  • Deep Neural Network trained on 60 million+ sentences
  • Adaptive noise cancellation active during calls (not just between them)

Active Noise Cancellation: Strong, But Not the Absolute Best

The Jabra Advanced ANC is built into the Evolve3 85 model, which, unlike most headsets, is designed to have noise cancelation while making phone calls.

In our experience, it is able to block more than most colleagues at the same time. While on a conference call, other participants can move freely, change their speaking volume, and maybe even talk to someone else in the room, and it won’t bother you at all. Thanks to 3 different A. I. adjustments that help you determine what to set them to.

If you consider yourself one who enjoys listening to music while on a headset, the Sony WH-1000XM6, Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (Gen 2), or Apple AirPods Max 2, Evolve3 85 should not even be an option. Those headsets are meant for optimal listening experiences while isolating your external noise. Better than the average noise cancelation in work headsets.

You can adjust the amount of outside noise you want to hear with the HearThrough (transparency) mode. The AirPods Max 2 have nicer technology, but it won’t really help you be more present.

Sound Quality for Music: Good, Not Great

The Evolve3 85 isn’t trying to be your primary music headphone, and the sound profile reflects that.

The midrange — where voices and dialogue live — is excellent. Vocals sound clear, natural, and present. Bass is present and controlled, with some kick, though it lacks the depth and punch of a music-tuned headphone. The soundstage is reasonably wide for an enterprise headset, but don’t expect the layered imaging of the Sony XM6.

In our testing, the sound improved noticeably after about 15–20 hours of break-in. If you primarily use these for calls and meetings, you’ll find the music performance more than acceptable for background listening. Dedicated audiophiles should look elsewhere.

You can tweak the sound via Jabra Plus (iOS/Android) or Jabra Direct (Windows/macOS), which offer equalizer settings and sidetone control.

Battery Life: Genuinely Outstanding

This is where the Evolve3 85 truly breaks the barriers.

  • With ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) off, the playback time is 120 uninterrupted hours.
  • With ANC on, the playback time is 55 to 60 hours.
  • For calls, the time with ANC off is 25 hours and with ANC on is 21 hours.
  • 5-minutes of charging will give you 5 hours of playback time.
  • Wireless charging is also possible (outer ear cup surface)
  • The battery is user-replaceable — a rarity, and a highly prized feature in corporate environments.

In practical terms, during the course of a working day, you will find it almost impossible to run the battery down on these headphones. And even if you forget to charge them overnight, five minutes on a cable will get you through most of a morning.

Connectivity & Platform Compatibility

Added to the package is the Jabra Link 390 USB dongle which can be USB-A or USB-C and provides low-latency and reliable wireless connection to computers. Bluetooth 5.3 technology provides a 30-meter range and can connect to phones and tablets. The headset is also able to connect to two devices simultaneously; for example, a laptop and a phone. This is especially useful for hybrid workers who need to manage multiple devices.

Two variants of the headset are available and both are certified.

  • Microsoft Teams variant: Teams button, LED device meeting indicators, and auto device selection for MS teams.
  • UC variant: works with Zoom and other unified communication devices such as Google Meets, Cisco, Avaya, Mitel.

Important: If Teams is not your main softphone, go for the UC variant. Combining the two can lead to a lot of manual setup, and this is unintuitive for a lot of people.

Jabra Evolve3 85 vs. Evolve3 75: Which Should You Buy?

Both headsets share the same core technology — ClearVoice, Adaptive ANC, Bluetooth 5.3, and the Link 390 dongle. The differences come down to fit and portability.

Evolve3 85 Evolve3 75
Design Over-ear On-ear
Weight 220g 180g
Battery (music) 120 hrs 110 hrs
Battery (calls) 25 hrs 22 hrs
Noise isolation Better (passive seal) More compact

If you’re in louder environments or want longer listening sessions, the Evolve3 85 is the right choice. If you prioritize portability and lighter weight, the 75 is a worthy alternative and saves you $100.

Who Should Buy the Jabra Evolve3 85?

Buy it if you:

  • Spend 4+ hours daily attending calls or video meetings
  • Work in hybrid or open-plan office settings
  • Prefer a headset that looks good to wear outside the office
  • Require certification for Microsoft Teams or UC platforms
  • Appreciate long battery life and fast charging

Skip it if you:

  • Primarily want a music headphone and calls secondary
  • Require hi-res wireless audio codecs (no LDAC or AptX Lossless)
  • Work within a tight budget (plenty of capable headsets exist under $200)
